Hi, I'm Katharina

My journey into psychology began in 2009 at Bournemouth University, England, where I graduated with a Bachelor of Science Honours in Psychology in 2012, followed by a Master of Science in Lifespan Neuropsychology in 2013. My first placement as an assistant psychologist in the closed forensic psychiatric wards in Isar-Amper Klinik, Taufkirchen Germany, exposed me to extreme psychiatric cases and allowed me to lead depression and anxiety groups as well as run individual sessions. I later worked as an assistant neuropsychologist at Poole Hospital and Shelley Park Neuroclinic in England where I gained much experience in cognitive rehabilitation for patients who had suffered strokes or trauma to the brain. The skills I learned in these spaces have proven incredibly useful to me in implementing helpful measures in educational and vocational settings for supporting children and adults.

Throughout my studies at Bournemouth, I volunteered and worked at several charities, practising therapeutic approaches, active listening skills, and compassionate support in focused areas, such as autism and emotional trauma. I also grew in my knowledge and understanding of the underlying mechanisms of disordered eating and maladaptive behavioural patterns, aiding patients in receiving interventional support.

I furthered my qualifications by pursuing an Integrated Professional Degree in Psychology at the University of Bergen in Norway between 2016-2021, while simultaneously working as a social services consultant in 2016 and as an educational psychologist from 2017-2021. In 2023, I completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Ethics at the University of Stellenbosch in South Africa. Travelling and exploring multiple environments has exposed me to different languages and approaches, enabling me to now counsel patients in English, German, and Norwegian while using a host of techniques. Some of the many methods I use to adapt my sessions to each individual, couple, or family include cognitive behavioural therapy, emotion-focused therapy, hypnotherapy (for which I hold a Diploma from the National Guild of Hypnotists in the U.S.), and psycho-education.

I aim to meet each of my patients where they are and help them develop the necessary tools to manage their unique challenges. I like to work together with other professionals and institutions to provide holistic and well-rounded therapy that accommodates specific needs. Through a patient-centred approach, I take care, however, to always ensure that my patients understand the referrals I may suggest before making them.

My consultations take place online, which creates a flexible space to allow you, your child, or your family to receive the care and support needed within a familiar environment.

Outside my Counselling Room

My life is a tapestry of experiences that shape my approach to therapy. When I am not in the counselling room, you will often find me indulging in my passions for board sports, trail running, and hitting the gym. Music is another love of mine, and I find solace in playing with orchestras. Yoga keeps me grounded and centred, essential for my personal and professional life.

As a mother and wife, I cherish the complexities of family dynamics, bringing a deeper understanding to my work. Having lived in more foreign countries than my home country, I embrace diversity and cultural nuances, enriching my therapy practice with a global perspective.
